Consult a Geriatric Care Manager if ... 

  • Caregivers appear needy and/or embarrassed because of their caregiving duties
  • Caregivers appear unable to cope/plan adequately for the future needs of their loved one
  • Caregivers recognize that the caregiving role is impacting their:
    • family
    • friends
    • work
    • hobbies and/or
    • privacy and time for themselves
  • Caregivers are unable to lift and/or physically assist an older adult
  • Caregivers realize that the time involved in searching for the "right answers" is not the most fruitful approach
  • Caregivers show signs of stress:
    • exhaustion
    • physical illness
    • weight loss
    • signs of depression
    • irritability
  • Evidence of increased tension between siblings and/or other relatives regarding the care of the older adult(s)
  • Indications that guilt feelings or feelings of "responsibility" are prevailing over practical actions
  • Long-distance caregivers increase their visit frequency
  • Local caregivers increase the daily time spent in caregiving duties
